The recent waves of drought, extreme heat and floods make climate policies and strategies for a livable future all the more urgent. Such policies are essential to cap warming at 1.5°C, as recommended in the IPCC Sixth Assessment report. If this is to be achieved, the entire planet must become carbon neutral by 2050. This means that greenhouse gas emissions must be halved by 2030 and approach zero by 2050, with all residual emissions absorbed.
